Douglas White

Douglas White (United Kingdom) will present an installation as well as Black Palm. “Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed”. Known for his use of found objects and materials, Douglas is fascinated by life, death, rebirth which he sublimates through his sculptures by using nature and recycling the remains of society. By recovering and assembling these forms, the artist weaves new poetic and exuberant possibilities from discarded everyday objects. He breaks down the meaning and power of everyday detritus in a practice that explores the aesthetic and narrative possibilities of materials that would otherwise be left to waste. Made of recycled tyres, Black Palm will be installed in the Marseille and Nice spaces.
FESTIVAL OVNi 2019 Mania Akbari & Douglas White A moon for my fatherFilm, 60′ 25 minutes, 2019 Mania Akbari collaborates with British sculptor Douglas White to create a film about an in-depth artistic and personal relationship exploring the nature of skin, family, death, desire and a powerful will to form. Mania Akbari examines the connection between her body and the political history of Iran, the relationship between her physical trauma and the collective political memory of her home country. As she undergoes surgeries on a body decimated by cancer, memory and reconstruction provide a framework for investigating how bodies are traumatized, censored and politicized, while ultimately remaining a space of possibility.
